Getting there

Car

If you are driving, start your journey in the main town of Mindelo. Head south on Avenida Marginal towards the Praia de Laginha. Continue straight until you reach the roundabout. Take the second exit onto the EN1-SV road heading towards Baía das Gatas. After about 10 minutes, you'll see signs directing you to Ponta Preta. Follow the signs for approximately 5 km until you reach the coastal area known as Ponta Preta. Parking is available nearby, but be sure to check for any local parking fees.

Public Transportation

To reach Ponta Preta using public transport, you will need to take a 'Aluguer' (shared taxi) from Mindelo. Head to the main taxi stand located near the city center. Look for a taxi heading towards Baía das Gatas and confirm with the driver that they will stop at Ponta Preta. The fare is typically around 100 CVE (Cabo Verdean Escudo) per person. The journey takes about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive, be sure to ask the driver for the best place to get dropped off to access the beach area.

Walking

If you are staying in the vicinity of Ponta Preta, you can walk there for a scenic experience. From Mindelo, head towards the coast and follow the Avenida Marginal until you reach the beach. Continue walking along the water, taking in the beautiful views. The walk from Mindelo to Ponta Preta is approximately 4 km and should take around an hour. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially on hot days.
