The Dahlia Garden, or Dahlia Dell, is a hidden gem located in Golden Gate Park next to the Conservatory of Flowers. Established in 1940 by park superintendent John Malaren and director Richard Eddy, the garden was intended to cultivate dahlia species from around the world. Today, it continues to flourish thanks to the Dahlia Society of California and their dedicated volunteers. The garden showcases over 700 varieties of dahlias, each with unique colors, shapes, and sizes. From pom-pom-like blooms to those resembling sea anemones, the diversity is astounding. The garden's vibrant colors and intricate forms create a captivating experience for visitors. The best time to visit is from late summer to early fall (August to October) when the dahlias are in full bloom. The Dahlia Garden is not only a beautiful place to visit, but it also serves as a reminder of San Francisco's commitment to preserving green spaces and fostering community engagement with nature.
