Discover more about Treasure Island

Treasure Island, a man-made island in the San Francisco Bay, boasts a rich history and stunning panoramic views. Constructed in 1936-37 from mud dredged from the bay, it was designed to host the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, a celebration of California's economic and cultural rise. The island was named by Clyde Milner Vandeburg. The fair showcased art deco architecture, dazzling lights, and lush gardens, leaving a lasting impression. Following the exposition, the U.S. Navy took control of the island in 1942, transforming it into Naval Station Treasure Island. After the naval station closed in 1997, the island was leased to the City of San Francisco and is currently undergoing significant redevelopment. Today, Treasure Island offers visitors a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Its location provides unparalleled views of the San Francisco skyline, the Bay Bridge, and the surrounding areas. Visitors can explore the island's parks, public art installations, and the Treasure Island Museum, which showcases the island's history. The island also hosts events like TreasureFest, a monthly flea market featuring handcrafted goods, vintage treasures, and local food. Additionally, Treasure Island is home to a growing number of wineries and dining options, including Mersea Restaurant, offering visitors unique culinary experiences with breathtaking scenery.
