From downtown Berkeley, walk to the nearest bus stop on Shattuck Avenue. Take the AC Transit bus number 1, 40, or 51 towards San Francisco. Stay on the bus for approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Get off at the 'Market St & Kearny St' stop. From there, walk east on Market Street for about 5 minutes until you reach Mechanics Monument at 488 Market St.
BART
Make your way to the Downtown Berkeley BART station located at 2160 Shattuck Ave. Take the BART train towards San Francisco/Daly City. After about a 20-minute ride, get off at the Montgomery St. station. Exit the station and walk east on Sutter St towards Kearny St, then turn right on Kearny St and walk south until you reach Market St. Turn left and walk for about 3 minutes to arrive at Mechanics Monument at 488 Market St.
Bike
If you prefer biking, rent a bike from one of the local bike-share stations in Berkeley. Head south on Shattuck Avenue, then take University Ave towards the Bay Bridge. Continue and cross over to the Embarcadero. Follow the bike path along the waterfront until you reach Market St. Turn right and ride up Market St for about 10 minutes until you reach Mechanics Monument at 488 Market St.
Walking
If you're up for a walk, start from the corner of Shattuck Avenue and University Avenue. Walk south on Shattuck Ave to the Downtown Berkeley area, then head towards the BART station at 2160 Shattuck Ave. From there, you can follow the BART instructions to Montgomery St. station, or continue walking along Shattuck until you reach the waterfront. From there, walk along the Embarcadero towards Market St, then turn left and walk for about 15 minutes to arrive at Mechanics Monument at 488 Market St.
