History of Coronado

Coronado was founded in 1885 by Elisha Babcock, Hampton Story, and Jacob Gruendike, who envisioned it as a resort city. The trio purchased the entire peninsula for $110,000 and immediately set about developing the area, including the construction of the iconic Hotel del Coronado, which opened its doors in 1888.
