Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From downtown San Diego, several Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus routes serve Balboa Park. Routes 3 and 120 travel along 4th and 5th Avenues, stopping near Laurel Street on the park's west side. Routes 7 and Rapid 215 operate on Park Boulevard, providing access to the east side. A one-way fare is around $2.50. Consider using the PRONTO app for easy payment and to earn a Day Pass as you ride.

    From many nearby neighborhoods, including downtown San Diego and the Gaslamp Quarter, Balboa Park is accessible by foot. The walk from the Gaslamp Quarter is approximately 1.5 miles and takes about 30 minutes. Follow 6th Avenue north, which leads directly to the park's entrance at El Prado and the Cabrillo Bridge.

    To access the heart of Balboa Park, park at Inspiration Point (east side of Park Blvd at Presidents Way). From there, take the free Balboa Park Tram, which runs every 10-15 minutes and stops at key destinations within the park, including Plaza de Panama and the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. The tram operates daily from 9 am to 6 pm (9 am to 8 pm during the summer). The tram is ADA accessible.
