Public Transportation
From your location in Costa Mesa, head to the nearest bus stop. You can take the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Route 57 bus towards the 'Fullerton Transportation Center'. Confirm the bus schedule and ensure that you board the bus that will take you towards the Santa Ana area. After about 30 minutes, transfer to Route 86 at the Santa Ana Transit Center, which heads towards 'Silverado Canyon'. Disembark at the 'Black Star Canyon Rd' stop. From there, walk approximately 0.5 miles along Black Star Canyon Rd to reach the Black Star Canyon Falls Trailhead.

If you prefer biking, rent a bicycle from a local shop in Costa Mesa. Start by heading east on 17th St, then take a left onto Newport Blvd heading north. Follow Newport Blvd until you reach the intersection with the 55 Freeway. Carefully navigate the bike lanes to connect to the Santa Ana River Trail. Follow the trail north until you reach the turn-off for Santiago Canyon Rd. Continue along Santiago Canyon Rd until you reach Black Star Canyon Rd, then turn left and bike about 2 miles to the Black Star Canyon Falls Trailhead.

Walking
Walking to Black Star Canyon Falls from Costa Mesa can be quite a hike. Start from the Costa Mesa City Hall and head east on 19th St. Walk toward Fairview Rd and proceed north until you hit the 55 Freeway. You will need to cross the freeway, so use the pedestrian bridge. Once on the other side, follow the signs toward Santiago Canyon Rd. Continue walking along Santiago Canyon Rd until you reach Black Star Canyon Rd. Turn left and walk about 2 miles to the trailhead. Note that this will take several hours, so plan accordingly.
