Fallen Leaf Lake: A Serene Gem in South Lake Tahoe

Getting There

• Car

  From the center of South Lake Tahoe, head south on US-50 E towards Stateline. After approximately 2 miles, take the ramp onto CA-89 S towards Emerald Bay. Continue on CA-89 S for about 4 miles. Look for the sign indicating Fallen Leaf Lake and take a right onto Fallen Leaf Lake Road. Continue on this road until you reach the parking area for Fallen Leaf Lake. Note that parking may incur a fee, so have cash ready.

• Public Transportation

  If using public transportation, start at the South Lake Tahoe Transit Center. Take the Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART) bus heading towards South Lake Tahoe. Get off at the 'CA-89 & Fallen Leaf Lake Road' stop. From there, it is about a 1-mile walk to the lake entrance. Make sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time, as service may be limited, especially during off-peak seasons.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, rent a bike in South Lake Tahoe and follow the same route as you would by car. Head south on US-50 E, then take CA-89 S. The ride can be steep in sections, so be prepared for a workout! There are bike racks available at the parking area near Fallen Leaf Lake.

• Hiking

  If you are feeling adventurous and are already in the nearby area, consider hiking to Fallen Leaf Lake. Start from the Mount Tallac Trailhead, which is accessible from Mount Tallac Road. Hike approximately 3 miles down the trail that leads towards Fallen Leaf Lake. This route is scenic but moderately challenging, so wear appropriate footwear and bring water.
