If you are coming from further areas in Venice Beach, you can take the Metro Bus. Look for Bus Line 1 or 33, which stops near Venice Beach. Board the bus and get off at the stop closest to Venice Beach. From there, walk towards the ocean, and you will find the Venice Boardwalk directly ahead.
