Driving
From central Malibu, head west on the Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1) for approximately 10 miles. Look for the small, easily missed sign for El Matador State Beach on the right side of the highway, between Broad Beach Road and Decker Canyon Road. Turn into the dirt parking lot. Parking costs $8. Free parking is available along PCH, but be mindful of 'No Parking' zones to avoid tickets.
Taxi/Ride-Share
From central Malibu, a taxi or ride-share to El Matador State Beach will cost approximately $25-$40, depending on traffic and demand. The driver can drop you off at the parking lot entrance. Parking at the lot is $8. Alternatively, you can ask to be dropped off along the PCH to avoid parking fees, but make sure it's a safe and legal spot.
Public Transport
While public transportation directly to El Matador State Beach is limited, you can take the Metro Bus 534 along the Pacific Coast Highway. Check the Metro website or app for the most up-to-date schedule and stops. Get off at a stop near El Matador State Beach and walk to the beach entrance. Be aware that this may involve a walk of up to 1 mile along the highway. The bus fare is $1.75 per ride.
