From the Village at Mammoth, head east on Canyon Blvd, then turn right onto Main Street. Walk south for approximately 0.7 miles. Turn left onto Ranch Road. The church will be on your left in about 0.2 miles. The walk is generally flat and takes about 20 minutes. Sidewalks are available along the route.

The Town of Mammoth Lakes offers a free transit system. Several routes stop near St. Joseph Church. Check the ESTA (Eastern Sierra Transit Authority) website or app for the most up-to-date schedules and routes. From many points in town, take the Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Orange, or Green Line to a stop near Main Street and Ranch Road. From there, it's a short walk to the church. The bus is free.

In the early days, the parish was under the Sacramento Diocese, but when the Diocese of Stockton was created in 1962, Mono County became part of it. That same year, Fr. Jim Kelly retired and was replaced by Fr. Thomas Savage, SJ. In 1984, recognizing the growing population of Mammoth Lakes compared to Lee Vining, the parish seat was officially moved to Mammoth Lakes. This acknowledged Mammoth Lakes as the central hub for the Catholic community in the region. Serving a resort community presents unique challenges. The full-time parishioner base is relatively small and experiences higher turnover due to the nature of the recreational economy.
