Getting There

  • Car

    From Muir Woods National Monument, exit the park and head south on Muir Woods Rd. Turn left onto CA-1 S (Pacific Coast Highway) and continue for about 6 miles. Merge onto US-101 S toward San Francisco. After about 10 miles, take exit 433B for I-280 S toward Daly City. Merge onto I-280 S and continue for about 5 miles. Take exit 48B for US-101 N toward San Francisco. Continue on US-101 N for about 2 miles and take exit 433A for Mission St. Follow the signs for Pier 39, which is located in the Fisherman's Wharf area of San Francisco. Parking is available at Pier 39 for a fee.

    From Muir Woods National Monument, walk to the nearest bus stop along Muir Woods Rd. Take the Marin Transit Route 61 bus toward Mill Valley. Transfer to the Golden Gate Transit bus at the Mill Valley Depot, taking Route 70 toward San Francisco. Get off at the Embarcadero & Folsom St stop. From there, you can walk to the Ferry Building and catch the F Line streetcar to Pier 39. The total journey may take around 1.5 to 2 hours, and bus fares will apply.
