Discover more about Jensen Botanical Garden

Jensen Botanical Garden, a serene and picturesque escape in Carmichael, California, offers a tranquil retreat for nature lovers and those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Founded in 1958 by Charles C. Jensen, the 3.5-acre garden began as a private collection and has since blossomed into a public space managed by the Carmichael Recreation and Park District. Charles and Marguerite Jensen transformed their property into a horticultural haven after moving from Oakland. They hauled truckloads of plants and trees, including magnolias, azaleas, dogwoods, and Japanese maples, back to their Carmichael home. Over time, Jensen hybridized, grafted, and acquired new plant varieties, creating a garden that caught the eye of many. He opened it to visitors for parties and weddings. Following Jensen's death, a group of citizens formed the Charles C. Jensen Botanical Garden, Inc Committee to preserve his legacy. Their fundraising efforts led to the garden becoming the property of the Carmichael Recreation and Park District in 1976. Since 2004, the Friends of Jensen Botanical Garden, a volunteer group, has played a crucial role in transforming the garden into the beautiful paradise it is today. The Nature Path for the Blind, inspired by Jacqueline Coffroth of the Daughters of the American Revolution, is a testament to the garden's commitment to inclusivity. Visitors can explore beautifully landscaped paths and enjoy vibrant displays of flowers, shrubs, and trees. The garden is open to the public during daylight hours. Jensen Botanical Garden offers a haven for relaxation and reflection. Benches and picnic areas are strategically placed throughout the garden, allowing visitors to relax and soak in the serene atmosphere.
