Jack London's Cabin: A Klondike Relic in Oakland
Step back in time and explore the legacy of Jack London at this Klondike cabin replica in Oakland's vibrant Jack London Square.
Nestled in Oakland's vibrant Jack London Square, the reconstructed Jack London's Cabin offers a tangible connection to the life and adventures of the celebrated author. The cabin isn't the original in its entirety, but rather a replica incorporating logs from London's actual cabin in the Klondike, Yukon Territory. In 1965, the cabin was dismantled, and the logs were split to create two replicas. One resides in Dawson City, Canada, and the other found its home in Oakland, California, where London was born and spent his childhood. Dedicated on July 1, 1970, the cabin stands as a tribute to London's experiences during the Gold Rush era, which profoundly influenced his writing. While at Jack London Square, visitors can explore the waterfront, dine at various restaurants, and visit Heinold's First and Last Chance Saloon, a historic bar frequented by London himself.
