    Discover more about Indian Canyons

The Indian Canyons, located on the ancestral lands of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, offer a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural history. Just a short drive south of downtown Palm Springs, this stunning area encompasses three main canyons: Andreas, Murray, and Palm, each offering distinct landscapes and experiences. Palm Canyon, the largest of the three, stretches 15 miles and boasts the world's largest concentration of California Fan Palms. A moderately graded footpath winds through the canyon, inviting visitors to picnic, meditate, and explore the lush surroundings. Andreas Canyon, a smaller, more intimate canyon, features a year-round stream and over 150 species of plants within a half-mile radius. An easy one-mile loop trail allows hikers to discover ancient bedrock mortars and diverse vegetation. Murray Canyon offers a moderate hiking and equestrian trail that leads to a seasonal waterfall known as the Seven Sisters. This canyon showcases the area's diverse wildlife, including the possibility of spotting Peninsular Big Horn Sheep. For millennia, the Agua Caliente people thrived in these canyons, utilizing the abundant water and resources for sustenance and cultural practices. Today, visitors can explore remnants of their ancient settlements, including rock art, irrigation systems, and food processing areas. The Indian Canyons provide a serene escape and a connection to the rich history and spiritual significance of the land.
