Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

The most common final approach is via the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. From Palm Springs, follow Tramway Road north for approximately 6 miles to the Tramway Valley Station. Purchase tickets online or at the station. Typical costs: Adults $25.95, Seniors (65+) $23.95, Children (3-10) $16.95. Parking is available for $15. The tram ride is approximately 10 minutes, ascending nearly 6,000 feet to the Mountain Station.
Hiking (Marion Mountain Trail)

For a challenging, tram-free approach, consider hiking up the Marion Mountain Trail. From Idyllwild, take Highway 243 north for approximately 7 miles to Marion Mountain Campground. Park near the campground; parking is free. The trail is a strenuous 13.2-mile round trip with 4,500 feet of elevation gain. A wilderness permit is required for day hiking and camping. There are no fees for these permits.

The park's official status was established in the 1930s, with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) building many of the original structures, hiking trails, and stone picnic tables still in use today.The most popular way to reach this alpine world is via the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, one of the world's largest rotating tramcars. The 10-minute ride ascends over 2.5 miles, offering panoramic views of Chino Canyon and the Coachella Valley. At the Mountain Station, visitors can explore over 50 miles of hiking trails, ranging from easy nature loops to challenging climbs to the summit. The park also features a natural history museum, two restaurants, and observation decks.Hiking and backpacking are popular activities, with trails leading through forests and meadows. Permits are required for day hiking and camping in the wilderness areas. Visitors should be prepared for variable weather conditions, including high winds, sub-freezing temperatures, and snow, especially from November through April.
