The Palm Springs Air Museum is a living history museum dedicated to educating the public about the role of air power in preserving American liberties. Founded in 1994 and opened in 1996, the museum has grown to encompass five themed hangars, outdoor displays, and a visitor center. The museum's collection includes over 70 aircraft, many in flyable condition, from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Global War on Terror. The hangars are organized by theme, such as the Pacific Hangar featuring Naval aircraft from the Pacific Theater of World War II, and the European Hangar displaying Army aircraft from the European Theater. Exhibits include a B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-25 Mitchell Bomber, a P-47 Thunderbolt, and an F-117 Nighthawk Stealth Fighter. Visitors can also explore a research library with over 12,700 volumes, flight simulators, and the Ron Auen Theatre, which screens aviation documentaries. Many docents are veterans who share their experiences and knowledge. The museum hosts annual events such as the Props & Hops Craft Beer Festival, a Memorial Day Flower Drop & Air Fair, and an annual gala. It also offers warbird rides for a unique experience.
