The Columbia Memorial Space Center (CMSC) is a dynamic learning environment where visitors of all ages can explore the wonders of space and science. Located in Downey, California, on the grounds of the former NASA Downey plant, the center honors the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia STS-107 mission. Inside the 20,000-square-foot, two-story building, guests will find a wide array of interactive exhibits, including a robotics lab and a high-definition computer lab. Exhibits offer engaging insights into Space Shuttle operations, life on the International Space Station, exploration of our solar system, and aerospace engineering. CMSC also hosts one of over 48 Challenger Learning Centers, offering simulated space missions. The center's mission is to be the most accessible STEM experience in the Los Angeles area. A dummy Apollo command capsule, BP-12, is on display in front of the center. CMSC is owned and operated by the City of Downey. It strives to be a hub of innovative science learning, reaching out to communities with activities focused on critical thinking, creativity, technology, and science.
