Getting There

Bus

From downtown San Mateo, walk to the nearest Caltrain station (San Mateo Station). Take the Caltrain south towards Gilroy. Disembark at the Millbrae station, and transfer to the SamTrans bus line 110 towards Half Moon Bay. After about 30 minutes, get off at the stop closest to Gray Whale Cove State Beach. From the bus stop, it’s a short walk to the beach entrance.
Bicycle

If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bike from one of the bike rental shops in downtown San Mateo. Head west on 3rd Avenue until you reach the Bay Trail. Follow the Bay Trail north until you can connect to Highway 92 West. Continue on Highway 92 to the coast, where you'll find signage leading to Gray Whale Cove State Beach. The ride is approximately 12 miles, so make sure to stay hydrated and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.
Walking

If you're near the coast, walk towards Highway 1 via either 9th Avenue or 10th Avenue. Once you reach Highway 1, head south along the highway. Look for signs that lead to Gray Whale Cove State Beach, which is about 8 miles from downtown San Mateo. Please note that walking along Highway 1 can be dangerous due to traffic, so be cautious and stay on the shoulder.
