Public Transit
From downtown San Mateo, walk to the Caltrain station located at 2 E 4th Ave, San Mateo, CA 94401. Take the northbound Caltrain towards San Francisco. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Disembark at the 4th and King station in San Francisco. From there, transfer to the Muni bus line N-Judah or the L-Taraval. Board the bus and travel towards the Outer Sunset district. Get off at the stop nearest to Ocean Beach, which is at the intersection of Great Highway and Fulton Street. From there, it's just a short walk to the beach.

Bicycle
If you prefer to ride a bike, you can rent one from a local bike shop in San Mateo. Start from downtown San Mateo and head southwest on 4th Avenue until you reach the Bay Trail. Follow the Bay Trail heading north towards San Francisco. You will eventually reach the Golden Gate Bridge area, where you can continue westwards, following the designated bike paths. Continue along the Great Highway until you reach Ocean Beach. This route is approximately 12 miles one-way and offers scenic views of the bay and beach.

If you enjoy walking, you can take a scenic route. Start from downtown San Mateo and head towards the Bay Trail. Follow the trail towards the San Francisco Bay, which will lead you north. This walk is quite long, around 12 miles, and will take roughly 4-5 hours. You can take breaks at parks or along the shoreline. Once you reach the Golden Gate National Park area, continue towards the coast until you reach Ocean Beach.
