Public Transit
From San Mateo, head to the nearest Caltrain station. Take the Caltrain north towards San Francisco. Get off at the '4th & King' station. From there, transfer to the Muni N-Judah light rail line at the '4th & King' station, heading towards Ocean Beach. Get off at the 'California & Ocean' stop. Walk west on California Street until you reach the beach, then head north along the shore until you arrive at Sutro Heights Park, located at 846 Point Lobos Ave.
Bus
Board SamTrans bus route 292 from the nearest bus stop in San Mateo heading towards San Francisco. Get off at the 'San Francisco & 19th Ave' bus stop. From there, transfer to the Muni bus route 38, heading towards '38R 38AXS - 38R 38AXS - Golden Gate Park'. Get off the bus at 'Point Lobos Ave & 48th Ave'. Walk a short distance north to reach Sutro Heights Park at 846 Point Lobos Ave.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bike at one of the bike rental shops in San Mateo. Follow the Bay Trail north along the shoreline towards San Francisco. Once you reach the Golden Gate Park area, navigate towards the Cliff House and then follow the signs to Sutro Heights Park, located at 846 Point Lobos Ave. This route offers beautiful views of the bay and coastline.
Walking
If you're close to the San Mateo downtown area, you can walk to the nearest SamTrans bus stop and take the bus as described above. Alternatively, if you're up for a long walk, head northwest towards the waterfront, then follow the coastal path north to Sutro Heights. It’s a scenic route but may take a few hours, so be prepared with water and comfortable shoes.
