Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major city, Redding, CA. Head north on I-5 N for approximately 42 miles. Take exit 724 for CA-89 N towards Mount Shasta. After about 24 miles, you will reach the town of McCloud. Continue on CA-89 N for about 4 miles until you reach the McCloud River area. Look for signs directing you to Lower Falls. Once you arrive, park in the designated parking area, which is free of charge.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take a Greyhound bus to McCloud from Redding. Once you arrive in McCloud, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach Lower Falls, as public transportation does not directly service this area. Taxis may be available, but it's advisable to check in advance or use a rideshare app like Uber or Lyft for convenience. Note that taxi fares can vary, so be prepared for possible costs ranging from $20 to $40 depending on the distance.

• Hiking

  If you are already in the McCloud River area and prefer an outdoor experience, you can hike to Lower Falls. From the parking area, follow the clearly marked trails leading to Lower Falls. The hike is moderate and takes about 30-45 minutes. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water and snacks. There are no fees for hiking in this area, but be aware of trail conditions and weather before heading out.
