Car
If you are driving, start from the nearest major city, Redding, CA. Head north on I-5 N for approximately 25 miles. Take exit 736 toward Montague and merge onto CA-97 N. Continue for about 22 miles until you reach Montague. Once in Montague, follow signs for Pluto's Cave. Turn left onto Pluto's Cave Road and follow it for about 2.5 miles until you reach the cave entrance. Note that the last portion of the road may be unpaved; a vehicle with higher clearance is recommended.
Public Transportation + Car
If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Redding to Montague. Greyhound and other local bus services may have routes available. Once you arrive in Montague, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach Pluto's Cave, as public transportation does not run directly to the cave. The taxi ride from Montague to Pluto's Cave should take about 10-15 minutes.
Hiking
For those who are adventurous and already near Montague, you can hike to Pluto's Cave. From the center of Montague, head north on CA-97 N. Find the trailhead for Pluto's Cave, which is indicated along the road. The hike to the cave is about 2 miles and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water.
