Discover more about Watson Cabin Museum

The Watson Cabin Museum offers a glimpse into the pioneering days of Tahoe City. Built in 1909 by Robert Montgomery Watson, a prominent local figure, the cabin was a wedding gift for his son, Robert Howard Watson, and his wife, Stella Tong. Constructed from local materials, including hand-hewn logs and native stone, the cabin represents the rustic charm of the era. The cabin was remarkably modern for its time, being one of the first in Tahoe City to have indoor plumbing. The two-story structure originally featured a living room, kitchen, and outdoor porch downstairs, with bedrooms and a sewing room upstairs. The North Lake Tahoe Historical Society now operates the cabin as a museum, displaying period furnishings and artifacts. Visitors can explore the cabin and learn about the Watson family's life and the history of Lake Tahoe. The museum also features historical memorabilia, including newspapers, maps, and photographs.
