Driving
The Palomar Observatory Gift and Book Store is located inside the Palomar Observatory. From San Diego or Los Angeles, take Interstate 15 to Highway 76 East. Follow the signs to Palomar Mountain. Turn left onto County Road S6 (South Grade Road) and follow it to the Observatory gates. The Gift and Book Store is located within the A.W. Greenway Jr. Visitor Center, a short walk from the parking lot. Parking is available in the visitor parking lot. Be aware that S6 is a winding mountain road, and conditions can be hazardous during and after rain or snow. Check road conditions before you go. There are no gas stations on Palomar Mountain, so ensure you have enough fuel. Parking is free.

After parking in the visitor parking lot, follow the paved path towards the Hale Telescope dome. The A.W. Greenway Jr. Visitor Center, which houses the Gift and Book Store, will be on your right, only 130 feet (40 meters) from the parking lot. The path is slightly uphill.
