Discover more about Yosemite Valley Loop Trail

The Yosemite Valley Loop Trail is a captivating journey through the heart of Yosemite Valley, offering a blend of natural beauty and historical significance. This trail, favored by those seeking a less strenuous but equally rewarding experience, loops around the valley floor, presenting panoramic views of Yosemite's most famous landmarks. Following many of the valley's first east-west trails and wagon roads, the Valley Loop Trail provides a relatively level path that winds through meadows, forests, and alongside the Merced River. Along the way, hikers are treated to striking views of Sentinel Rock, Cathedral Rocks, Bridalveil Fall, El Capitan, Three Brothers, and Yosemite Falls. The full loop stretches 11.5 miles (18.5 km) and typically takes 5-7 hours to complete, while the half loop covers 7.2 miles (11.6 km) and can be hiked in 2.5-3.5 hours. Historically, the trail encompasses the entire valley, from El Capitan at the west end to Mirror Lake at the east end. Parts of the trail may have even been old wagon roads first established by the Euro-Americans in the Valley. The Ahwahnechee, the Natives of Yosemite Valley, deserve credit for establishing the first trails within Yosemite Valley. Whether you choose to embark on the full loop or opt for a shorter segment, the Yosemite Valley Loop Trail promises an immersive and unforgettable experience.
