Discover more about Phum Prasat

Phum Prasat, also known as Prasat Phoum or Prasat Pagoda, is a captivating Hindu temple dating back to the 8th century. Located in the village of Tnaot Chum, approximately 27 kilometers from Kampong Thom, the temple stands on the grounds of a modern-day monastery, creating a unique blend of ancient and contemporary spiritual practices. The temple, constructed in the Kampong Preah style, is dedicated to Shiva and features a rectangular brick tower adorned with detailed carvings. Though time has weathered some of the decorative elements, sections of ornate pilasters with floral patterns and moldings remain remarkably intact. The temple opens to the east, showcasing a sandstone doorframe flanked by decorated columns and a beautiful lintel. An inscription on the doorframe, dating back to 706 AD, references donations made to the temple. In its early days, the temple was a royal palace used to store royal valuables. Today, Phum Prasat offers a tranquil escape, with fewer crowds than more popular temple sites. Visitors are encouraged to dress respectfully and take time to appreciate the temple's architecture and historical significance.
