Legend says that King Cha Krey Sara Varman, son of Preah Bat Hathak Athi Reach Varman, sought a gold mine in the area, leading to the name Phnom Sambok, meaning 'very rich in gold'. Over the centuries, the site has evolved into a contemporary meditation center and monastery, attracting pilgrims and tourists alike. The ascent to the pagoda is an integral part of the experience.
