Lok Yeay Mao: Guardian of Kampot's Coast

The Lok Yeay Mao Monument stands as a majestic tribute to a legendary figure deeply embedded in Cambodian folklore. Located in Krong Kampot, within the Preah Monivong National Park on Bokor Mountain, this 29-meter-tall statue pays homage to Lok Yeay Mao, a revered protector of travelers, hunters, and fishermen. The monument's construction, completed in 2012, was a significant undertaking, costing around USD 210,000 and requiring two years due to weather conditions and transportation challenges. Perched at an elevation of 1,075 meters, the Lok Yeay Mao monument offers visitors breathtaking panoramic views. From this vantage point, one can feast their eyes on the vast blue seas, the intricate coastal line, and the offshore islands that dot the horizon.
