Discover more about Kulen waterfall

Kulen Waterfall is the main attraction within Phnom Kulen National Park, a site considered sacred to Cambodians. Phnom Kulen, also known as Kulen Mountain or Lychee Mountain, is about 50 kilometers north of Siem Reap. The mountain range was the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire, where King Jayavarman II declared independence from Java in 802 CE. He established the concept of the Devaraja (God-King) and made the mountain his capital, then known as Mahendraparvata. The waterfall itself is a stunning cascade, inviting visitors to swim in its cool waters. The top section of the waterfall is relatively flat, making it suitable for families with young children. Nearby, the River of a Thousand Lingas (Kbal Spean) features intricate carvings in the sandstone riverbed, which are representations of the Hindu god Shiva. The water flowing over these lingas is considered holy and is believed to have mystical fertility powers. The area is a popular picnic spot, with hammocks and shelters available to provide shade. Visitors can also explore the 16th-century Buddhist monastery, Preah Ang Thom, which houses a large reclining Buddha statue. Phnom Kulen National Park spans over 37,000 hectares and is home to diverse flora and fauna. The park's lush rainforests and scenic views add to its appeal.
