Pha Mor E Daeng: Cliffside Views and Ancient Echoes

Pha Mor E Daeng, meaning 'Red Cliff of the Widow', is a dramatic natural landmark and historical site located in Khao Phra Wihan National Park in Si Sa Ket Province. This steep cliff forms part of the Dangrek mountain range, which marks the border between Thailand and Cambodia. The site is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views, especially at sunrise, where the sky transforms into vibrant hues of orange and red. Beyond its natural beauty, Pha Mor E Daeng holds historical significance. The area features ancient Khmer bas-reliefs, believed to predate the nearby Preah Vihear Temple, dating back to the 11th century. These carvings depict figures from Hindu mythology, offering a glimpse into the region's rich cultural past. Visitors can descend stairs to view these carvings on the sandstone walls beneath the cliffs. The cliff stretches for about 300 meters, providing multiple viewpoints along the way. From the highest point, you can see the distant Preah Vihear Temple and the vast Cambodian landscape. The surrounding area is covered in diverse forests, providing habitat for a variety of wildlife.
