Li Phi Somphamit Waterfalls, located on Don Khon Island, is a natural wonder featuring a series of whitewater cascades and rapids along the Mekong River. Unlike a single high drop, the falls spread across 1.5 km, creating a dynamic landscape of rushing water and rocky hills.The name “Li Phi” or “Spirit Trap” comes from the local belief that the falls act as a trap for the bad spirits of deceased people and animals as they wash down the river. Local fishermen brave the strong currents to fish using traditional bamboo traps, a testament to their skill and knowledge of the river.Visitors can explore well-maintained trails that offer different viewpoints of the falls. Suspension bridges provide closer access to the cascades (additional fee), and a hidden beach offers a peaceful spot to relax. Swimming is not allowed at the falls, but there may be designated swimming areas nearby. Food and drinks are available near the parking lot.

Getting There
Walking
From the main village on Don Khon, follow the signs towards Li Phi Waterfalls. The walk is approximately 1.5 kilometers from the Khon Tai dock to the entrance. The path is well-marked and passes through local scenery. Upon arrival at the entrance, there is an entry fee of 30,000 LAK for foreigners.
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from Don Det or Don Khon for 10,000-20,000 LAK per day. Cycle to the bridge connecting Don Det and Don Khon. After crossing the bridge onto Don Khon, turn right and follow the road to Li Phi Waterfalls. Park your bicycle near the entrance and pay the 30,000 LAK entrance fee.
