The reserve protects a unique montane ecosystem, characterized by lush montane forests, riparian forests, and montane grasslands.The forest is home to a diverse array of plant species, including many endemic and rare ones. It's recognized as the most plant species-rich montane forest in Nigeria, boasting over 24 endangered plant species. The dense canopy, enriched by lianas and climbers, creates a unique environment for various wildlife, including the endangered Nigerian chimpanzee, several primate species, and a wide variety of bird species. Ngel Nyaki is an Important Bird Area recognized by Birdlife International.Visitors can explore scenic trails, enjoy birdwatching, and immerse themselves in the local culture. Engaging with local guides enhances the experience, providing insights into the forest's ecosystem and cultural significance.
