Campobello Island, nestled in the Bay of Fundy, is a captivating blend of natural beauty and historical significance. First appearing on European maps in 1607, the island was initially called "A bah quiet" by the Passamaquoddy Indians, who hunted, fished, and harvested its resources. The French were the first Europeans to settle here, naming it "Port aux Coquilles". In 1770, Captain William Owen received a grant for the island and renamed it Campobello, meaning "Beautiful Field" in Italian, in honor of the Nova Scotia governor, Lord William Campbell. The Roosevelt family famously made Campobello their summer home from 1883, shaping a future president. Today, Campobello Island offers a wealth of attractions.
