    The Grand Parade is a rectangular civic space in Downtown Halifax with a rich history dating back to the city's founding in 1749. Originally designed as a military parade square, it has evolved into a central gathering place for Halifax residents, hosting diverse events, performances, and ceremonies.Located between the Halifax Waterfront and the Halifax Citadel, the Grand Parade is framed by two significant landmarks: Halifax City Hall to the north and St. Paul's Anglican Church to the south. Halifax City Hall, constructed between 1887 and 1890, showcases 19th-century French Second Empire architecture. St. Paul's Church, established in 1749, is the oldest Protestant church in Canada and the oldest building in Halifax.The Cenotaph, a war memorial, stands in the middle of the Grand Parade. Dedicated in 1929, it commemorates the Haligonians who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars, the Korean Conflict, and the Afghanistan Conflict.
