    Getting There

    Walking

    From the town of King's Cove, follow Route 235 to the Saints Peter and Paul Church. Park here and locate the trailhead for the King's Cove Lighthouse Trail. The 1.7 km Inner Loop trail will lead you to the lighthouse in approximately 45 minutes. The trail is moderately trafficked and offers scenic coastal views. Donations to Hike Discovery, who maintains the trail, are welcome.

    Driving

    From Bonavista, take Route 235 towards King's Cove. Once in King's Cove, follow the signs to the Saints Peter and Paul Church, where you can park and access the lighthouse trail. Parking is free. From St. John's, the drive to King's Cove is approximately 3.5 hours. Note that there are no gas stations directly in King's Cove, so ensure you have sufficient fuel.

The area's maritime history dates back to the early 1800s when it was a prominent fishing hub.The lighthouse itself is a cast-iron tower manufactured in Birmingham, England, and assembled on-site using riveted joints, a common shipbuilding technique of the time. Originally painted red, it was later painted white. The lighthouse played a vital role in navigating the treacherous waters of Bonavista Bay. Over the years, various keepers maintained the light, with the last keeper departing in 1992 when the light was automated.Today, visitors can explore the grounds and enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The Inner Loop trail to the lighthouse is a 1.7 km walk from the Saints Peter and Paul Church, taking approximately 45 minutes. The lighthouse stands as a reminder of Newfoundland's maritime heritage and offers a tranquil escape into nature.
