    From Niagara Falls, take the WEGO Green Line to the Floral Clock. Transfer to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Shuttle, which connects to Fort George. Fort George National Historic Site, located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, offers a captivating journey into Canada's early military history. Built between 1796 and 1802, the fort served as the headquarters for the Centre Division of the British Army during the War of 1812 and played a pivotal role in the defense of Upper Canada. The site features a largely recreated 18th-century military fort, reconstructed in the 1930s to its pre-1812 appearance. Explore the grounds and tour 19th-century military architecture, including the Blockhouses, Officers' Quarters, Artificers Shop, and Guard House. Don't miss the powder magazine, the only original building to survive the Battle of Fort George and the oldest military building in Ontario. Throughout the summer, experience the sights and sounds of the Fife and Drum Corps and witness training maneuvers by the 41st Regiment Infantry unit. You can also taste food prepared over an open fire in the Officer's Kitchen and witness musket and artillery demonstrations. Fort George witnessed significant action during the War of 1812, including the Battle of Queenston Heights. The fort was destroyed and captured by American forces during the Battle of Fort George in May 1813, but the British reclaimed it seven months later. The site was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1921.
