Public Transport

From Niagara Falls, Canada, take the Niagara Region Transit bus directly to the Whirlpool Aero Car. Buses depart every 30 minutes, and the journey takes approximately 8-16 minutes. A single fare costs between $1 and $4.

Driving

From Niagara Falls, Canada, drive north along the Niagara Parkway. The Whirlpool is approximately a 10-15 minute drive. Paid parking is available near the Whirlpool Aero Car and the Niagara Glen hiking trails for around $8 per hour. Parking is also available at the Wildplay Whirlpool Adventure Course for $8 per hour.

Walking

For a scenic route, walk along the Niagara River Recreational Trail from Niagara Falls to the Whirlpool. The walk is approximately 4.8 miles (5.4 km) and takes about 1 hour and 5 minutes. Be prepared for some elevation changes along the gorge.

The Niagara Whirlpool is a captivating natural whirlpool located in the Niagara River along the Canada–U.S. border, downstream from the majestic Niagara Falls. This awe-inspiring site formed approximately 4,200 years ago due to the upstream erosion of the Niagara Escarpment by the Niagara River. The whirlpool's formation began when the retreating falls intersected with an ancient pre-glacial river bed inside Saint David's Buried Gorge. This gorge, filled with loose sediment and rock, created a sharp change in the water's direction, resulting in the turbulent swirling that defines the whirlpool.The Niagara Whirlpool boasts an average depth of 125 feet (38 m) and a maximum speed of 40 km/hr (25 mph). The water typically spins counterclockwise, but this can change when water is diverted to nearby hydroelectric power plants.Visitors can experience the Niagara Whirlpool from various vantage points. The Niagara Glen Nature Reserve on the Canadian side and Whirlpool State Park on the U.S. side both offer hiking trails and observation areas. For a unique perspective, the Whirlpool Aero Car provides a thrilling ride suspended above the swirling waters.
