Discover more about BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Toronto

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto stands as a testament to ancient Indian art, architecture, and traditions. Completed in 2007, it is the first of its kind in Canada, meticulously constructed according to ancient Hindu principles. The Mandir is more than just a temple; it's a cultural complex comprising the stone Mandir, a wooden Haveli (traditional courtyard), and the Heritage Museum. The Mandir itself is a marvel, built from 24,000 pieces of hand-carved Italian Carrara marble, Turkish limestone, and Indian pink sandstone. These pieces were crafted by 1,800 artisans in Rajasthan, India, shipped to Canada, and then assembled by a team of dedicated volunteers. The structure was created without the use of steel, adhering to ancient Vedic techniques where the walls are load-bearing. The intricate carvings, 340 pillars (112 intricately carved), 132 archways, domes, and pinnacles create a mesmerizing visual experience. The Haveli, intricately hand-carved in Burmese teak, reflects traditional Indian wooden courtyard craftsmanship. Inside, you'll find an entrance lobby adorned with hundreds of carved figures of musicians, poets, and dancers. The Haveli also houses a cultural center that hosts community programs, an assembly hall, classrooms, and a gymnasium. The Heritage Museum showcases the history and culture of the Indo-Canadian diaspora with a theme of "Unity in Diversity". The museum aims to educate the public through creative and visually stunning exhibits. Visitors are welcome to experience the Mandir's peaceful ambiance and participate in daily rituals such as the Aarti and Abhishek. The Mandir is a place of worship and meditation, requiring visitors to maintain silence and adhere to a dress code that covers shoulders and knees. Photography is allowed outside the Mandir.
