The Lime Ridge Monument, also known as the Canadian Volunteers Monument, stands as a poignant reminder of Toronto's history. Located on the University of Toronto campus, west of Queen's Park Crescent, it commemorates the Toronto militia volunteers who lost their lives in the Battle of Ridgeway on June 2, 1866. These volunteers were fighting against Irish-American Fenian insurgents who aimed to seize Canada and exchange it for Irish independence.The monument, designed in the Italian Renaissance style, was sculpted by Robert Reid of Mayer & Co. of Montreal. It was unveiled on Dominion Day in 1870. The monument features a tiered structure with pedestals, cornices, and buttresses, constructed from sandstone and marble. Statues representing Faith and Grief, along with figures of riflemen, adorn the monument. A statue of Britannia sits atop the structure.In 2006, conservation efforts were undertaken to repair the then 150-year-old monument. The restoration included stabilizing the core, cleaning the masonry, treating the marble statuary, and repairing surface loss. The monument serves as a place of reflection and appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who served.

Walking
The Lime Ridge Monument is located on the University of Toronto campus, on the west side of Queen's Park Crescent. From the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), walk south along Queen's Park Crescent for about 5 minutes. The monument will be on your right, on a grassy slope.
Public Transport
To reach the Lime Ridge Monument via public transport, exit at Queen's Park subway station and walk north along Queen's Park Crescent West for approximately 5 minutes. Alternatively, you can exit at Museum subway station and walk south along Avenue Road, then across Hoskin Avenue along Queen's Park Crescent West. A single fare on the TTC costs $3.35 if paying with cash or $3.30 if using a PRESTO card. PRESTO cards can be purchased from Presto Card vending machines, usually located in TTC subway stations.
Driving
If driving, navigate to the University of Toronto campus, specifically the west side of Queen's Park Crescent. From the north, proceed south along Avenue Road, then veer left onto the exit ramp to Queen's Park Crescent West. Parking is available in the area, with options including Green P parking lots. Carpark 507 at 66 Third Street costs $1.25 per half hour. Carpark 051 at 365 Lippincott Street costs $2.75 per half hour.
