If you're driving from the town of Haliburton, head north on County Road 21 for about 20 km. After approximately 12 km, turn left onto Highway 118. Continue for about 8 km until you see the signs for Oxtongue Lake, which will be on your left. Follow the signs to the parking area near the lake. This route is scenic and well-maintained, but be cautious of wildlife crossing the road, particularly in the early morning or late evening.
Public Transportation
Unfortunately, there are limited public transportation options directly to Oxtongue Lake. However, you can take a bus from Haliburton to the nearby town of Dorset. Once in Dorset, you may need to arrange for a taxi service to take you the remaining 10 km to Oxtongue Lake, which might cost approximately $20-$30 CAD. It’s advisable to book the taxi in advance, as services can be infrequent.
Bicycle
For the adventurous, biking from Haliburton to Oxtongue Lake is possible. Take County Road 21 north for about 20 km, then follow Highway 118. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow road safety rules.
