Housed in a quaint building that once served as the township's first council chambers from 1910 to 1946, the museum is packed with artifacts, documents, and photographs that tell the story of the area's pioneers. Exhibits within the museum highlight various aspects of the region's heritage, including the history of the Stanhope Fire Department, a detailed miniature one-room schoolhouse, and the logging industry. Visitors can also delve into local genealogy and property research. A highlight is the working scale model of the Hawk Lake Log Chute, a reminder of the area's logging past. The actual Hawk Lake Log Chute, the only remaining wooden log chute in Ontario, is located nearby. Beyond the exhibits, the museum also features the Stanhope Heritage Garden, which displays plants of historical significance to the township. These plants, some native and others brought by settlers, pay homage to the farming and gardening knowledge adapted by pioneers in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The museum also boasts the World's Tallest Lumberjack statue. The museum is open seasonally, from mid-June to Labour Day, and offers free admission, encouraging visitors to explore its collections and learn about the area's unique heritage.
