Discover more about Point Prim Lighthouse

Perched at the tip of scenic Point Prim, this historic lighthouse offers a glimpse into PEI's maritime past. Built in 1845, it was the first lighthouse on the Island and one of the few round brick lighthouses in Canada. Designed by Isaac Smith, who also designed Province House and Government House, the lighthouse stands as a testament to early engineering and the importance of maritime navigation.Originally constructed of local brick, the tower was sheathed with wooden shingles just two years after completion to protect it from the harsh coastal elements. Climb the 60-foot tower for panoramic views of the Northumberland Strait and Hillsborough Bay. Inside, you can still see the original brickwork and learn about the lighthouse's fascinating history through exhibits and displays. The surrounding area offers a peaceful retreat with picnic tables and a gift shop in the Keeper's Cottage. Take a stroll along the paved pathway, breathe in the fresh sea air, and imagine life as a 19th-century lighthouse keeper. Point Prim Lighthouse is more than just a historic landmark; it's a symbol of Prince Edward Island's enduring connection to the sea.
