Absolutely worth a visit

Well worth a visit, well laid out, plenty of space to move around and a plethora of art on offer - Indigenous and Canadian, American and European. Great quiet/sit out places and do visit the Rideau Chapel - a bit spooky! But you quickly adapt to the singing and chatter. Offers art activities for young people/children in the Scotia Bank Grand Hall and the cafe on the first floor offers range of refreshments (but better choice the earlier you go)

Informative, Impactful and Interesting.

This museum is large with great displays. Some interactive. I found the whole experience educational and at times quite impactful. The artifacts, machines, vehicles are also very well displayed and gives you a glimpse to the conditions, space and intensity our service members have to work in. We spent approximately 3 hours here. But easily could have spent longer.

Canadian Museum of History (Canadian Children's Museum included)

Very good but overwhelming

This certainly is a good museum; however, it’s totally overwhelming. Plus, the lower floors, with many indigenous artifact on display, are better than the higher ones, which include unappealing corridors of Canada’s modern history with hundreds of artifacts impossible to go through (not to memtion remember). Coming from Stockholm, Sweden, where we have the fab Skansen with numerous original houses and other buildings from different epochs, which you can enter and see/explore from the inside, I was extremely disappointed to learn that The Canadian Museum of History used to use the same interctive and truly appealing concept. But then everything was changed into something more ‘educational’. Meaning, you’re going to walk around among innumerable artficts and, unless you spend days reading their lenghty descriptions, which is impossible for an average person, you won’t remember a thing. What a shame. The only original building left on display is a Ukrainian church - it’s really great that you can enter it and explore the architecture and atmosphere hands-on. Many other visitors were looking for it as well. Why change the winning concept…? No idea 🤷‍♀️
