Discover more about Community Christian Church

Community Christian Church, located at 4601 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri, is an architectural gem designed by the renowned Frank Lloyd Wright. Completed in 1942, the church is one of only 10 ecclesiastical structures designed by Wright and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building embodies Wright's innovative spirit, blending bold design principles with forward-thinking construction methods. After a fire destroyed the congregation's original church in 1939, Wright was commissioned to create a modern space. His design, based on a parallelogram, incorporated elements from his earlier work for the Johnson Wax Company. One of the most iconic features is the Steeple of Light, a series of beams projected through a perforated dome, added in 1994, fulfilling Wright’s vision of the church as a beacon. The Steeple of Light is created by four 16-inch xenon bulbs, generating 1.2 billion candlepower, and can be seen for miles around Kansas City. Inside, the sanctuary, designed to seat 900, boasts remarkable acoustics, making it ideal for worship and musical performances. The church is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), known for its progressive and inclusive values. Community Christian Church strives to embody love, acceptance, and justice, welcoming all. The church also hosts a variety of events, including worship services, food pantry distributions, and arts-related programs.
