Discover more about Government House

Government House, located in Regina, Saskatchewan, is a beautifully preserved testament to the province's history and Victorian splendor. Built in 1891, it served as the residence and office for the Lieutenant Governors of the North-West Territories, and later Saskatchewan, until 1945. Today, it functions as a museum, a National Historic Site, and the official office for the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. Designed by Thomas Fuller, the architect behind Ottawa's Parliament Buildings, Government House was intended to reflect the authority of the federal government and the Vice-Regal position of the Lieutenant Governor. The house features a subdued Italianate style, with brick walls, a stone foundation, and a prominent porte-cochere. Inside, visitors can explore the Amédée Forget Museum and the J.E.N. Wiebe Interpretive Centre, which offer insights into Canadian government and Saskatchewan's past. The 8.5-acre Edwardian Gardens surrounding Government House provide a tranquil escape. These gardens, originally designed by landscape gardener George Watt, feature manicured lawns, vibrant flowers, and walking paths. Visitors can also enjoy special events throughout the year, including Victorian teas, family programs, and art exhibitions. Government House is wheelchair accessible and offers complimentary wheelchairs and walkers.
