Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the city of Antofagasta. Head northeast on Route 5 towards San Pedro de Atacama. Continue on Route 5 for approximately 200 kilometers. After reaching San Pedro de Atacama, follow signs for Route 23 towards the Valle del Arcoiris. The entrance to the valley is located at Quebrada Chuschul, which is about 40 kilometers from San Pedro. Be prepared for a rough road, and a 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended. There may be a small fee for parking or entrance into the area, typically around $2,000 CLP.
Public Transportation
To reach Valle del Arcoiris using public transportation, first take a bus from Antofagasta to San Pedro de Atacama. Buses run regularly and the journey takes about 24 hours. Once in San Pedro, you can find local tour operators that offer trips to Valle del Arcoiris. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or shared taxi (remis) to the valley from San Pedro, which will take around 40 minutes and cost around $15,000 to $20,000 CLP. Be sure to confirm the return trip as taxis may not wait for you.
