From the Central Valley, head north on Route 5 (Pan-American Highway). Continue driving for approximately 1,700 kilometers (about 1,056 miles) until you reach the town of San Pedro de Atacama in the Antofagasta region. Once in San Pedro, follow signs towards the Altiplano and Cerro Toco. Take Route 23, a well-marked road leading towards the mountain. The journey from San Pedro to the Cerro Toco parking area takes about 30 minutes. Make sure to have a full tank of gas, as there are few gas stations in the area.
