If you are traveling by car from the Central Valley region (such as Santiago or Rancagua), head north along Route 5 (Pan-American Highway). After approximately 1,600 km, take the exit toward Calama on Route 23. Continue on Route 23 for about 140 km, following signs toward San Pedro de Atacama. Once in San Pedro, take Route B-245 heading north for about 60 km to reach El Tatio. Note that the road is unpaved and may require a 4x4 vehicle. Ensure to refuel in Calama as services are limited along the route.
