The most common and convenient way to visit El Tatio is by booking a tour from San Pedro de Atacama. Numerous tour operators offer early morning excursions, including transportation, a guide, and sometimes breakfast. Tour costs vary, but typically range from CLP$35,000 to CLP$50,000 per person, excluding the entrance fee. The entrance fee to El Tatio is CLP$15,000 per person, payable in cash.
Driving
If you prefer to drive, rent a car in San Pedro de Atacama and head north on Route B-245. The drive is approximately 90 kilometers (56 miles) and takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. Be aware that the road is mostly gravel and can be bumpy in sections, but a 4x4 is not essential. Drive carefully and allow extra time. Entrance fee is CLP$15,000 per person, cash only. Parking is available near the geyser field.
